What is Metadata?
"Metadata is data about data. It describes the attributes and contents
of an original document or work, and can relieve potential data users
of having to have full advance knowledge of a dataset's existence and
characteristics. In other words, standard bibliographic information,
summaries, indexing terms, and abstracts are all surrogates for the
original material, hence metadata. The term is generally applied to
electronic resources and refers to 'data' in the broadest sense-
-datasets, textual information, web pages, graphics, music, and
anything else that is likely to appear electronically." Milstead, J. and S.
Feldman, 1999. "Metadata: Cataloging by any other name..." Online,
Inc. (magazine article, published January 1999).
What is electronic discovery?
Electronic discovery is the process of requesting, obtaining, and
reviewing material that has not been reduced to a tangible medium
(such as paper or microfilm) or that co-exists with a tangible copy.
What is computer forensics?
Computer forensics is the examination, analysis, testing, and evaluation
of computer-based material, conducted to provide relevant and
valid information to a court of law. In short, it is the process of
recovering or reconstructing digital information that someone might
be trying to hide.
What types of media can you handle?
We decipher just about anything, including magnetic tapes, DAT
tapes, ZIP cartridges, flash drives, hard drives, optical drives, CDs,
DVDs, floppy disks, PDAs, and more.
What kind of equipment do you use?
We are equipped with the hardware and software resources for
conducting the most demanding electronic discovery and computer
forensics tasks. We have the capacity to analyze a wide range of
hardware and electronic media.
What areas do you serve?
Computing Source provides electronic discovery, computer forensics,
and expert testimony to clients throughout the United States.
How long does it take?
You can rely on us to provide the information you request as quickly
as possible. Actual time depends of the amount of data to be examined,
the medium upon which data is stored, and the complexity of
the discovery and/or forensics process.
How much does it cost?
Each job is unique and will be priced accordingly. Our basic fees
depend upon the complexity of
services and skill set required to complete the task. Additional items
such as travel time, attendance at trials, et cetera, are negotiated as
needed.
